I love Peter. He's always stepping in it. On the surface, it looks like he's a bumbling idiot who just can't get things right; and I'm guessing that, inside his head, this surely must have been how it felt, much of the time.
Look deeper.
Someone can't fail unless they are trying. Unless they are stepping out in faith. This is exactly what we have here in this scene. Peter gets out of the boat, and for one brief, shining moment, he's doing exactly what he set out to do. Never mind that he gets momentarily distracted and has to ask for help... what stands out to me is that he's just crazy enough to step out of the boat in the first place! That's true courage. That's true faith. And when he stumbled, as we all do, he knew exactly where to turn.

This is exactly why I love Peter. Because I admire that level of crazy, courageous faith that doesn't make sense. That's the kind of faith that God can do anything with...
